Chelsea are on another spending rampage. Already one of the biggest spenders of this transfer window, the Blues are set to fork out over €40 million (£34M) for Ajax’s highly-rated teenage defender Jorrel Hato.
At just 19, the Dutch international has already made 111 first-team appearances for Ajax and earned six caps for the Netherlands. Versatile (centre-back and left-back), composed on the ball and with strong tactical awareness, Hato is considered one of Europe’s most promising defenders. He’s expected to sign a seven-year deal with Chelsea.
Spending Now Tops £235M (€280M)
Chelsea’s transfer blitz now includes:
- Jamie Gittens – €64.3M / £55M
- João Pedro – €63.7M / £54.5M
- Liam Delap – €35.5M / £30.3M
- Estêvão – €34M / £29M
- Dario Essugo – €22.3M / £19.1M
- Mamadou Sarr – €14M / £12M
- Kendry Paez – €10M / £8.6M
- Jorrel Hato – €40M+ / £34M+
Total spending: €283.8M+ / £242.5M+
And it may climb further, with Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig) targeted in a potential €70M / £60M deal.
Selling to Compensate?
Chelsea have recovered over €150M / £128M in sales, with departures including Noni Madueke, João Félix, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Djordje Petrovic, and others. But with over £110M net spend, Chelsea’s bold financial strategy is once again under the spotlight.
