According to Tot Costa (Catalunya Ràdio), Lionel Messi is about to extend his contract with Inter Miami until 2028.
The Argentine star, whose current deal runs until fall 2025, wants to keep playing for several more seasons. The official announcement is expected in the coming days or weeks.
Now 38, Messi still has his eyes on the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada. His continued presence in MLS was expected, especially as he has brought many of his closest companions into the team.
A 3-Year Extension
The recent arrival of Rodrigo De Paul, one of Messi’s closest friends from the national team, only strengthens this trend. But the real surprise is the length of the new contract: three more years, keeping Messi at the club until 2028, when he will turn 41.
The new deal includes special clauses, as is customary with the Argentine legend. It will be reviewable each year:
- At the end of 2026, Messi can choose to walk away if he no longer wishes to continue after the World Cup.
- At the end of 2027, Inter Miami will have its own exit option.
If neither clause is activated, Messi will remain at the club through 2028.
