The Gianluigi Donnarumma–PSG story is ending in acrimony. A day after being dropped from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham, the Italian goalkeeper bid farewell to the club. His agent, Enzo Raiola, then went on the offensive in the media, denouncing what he called an unworthy treatment.

According to Raiola, Donnarumma — a key figure in PSG’s Champions League triumph — had even agreed to a pay cut to extend his contract. But talks broke down: “In March or April, the cards were reshuffled,” Raiola explained. “We decided to stop everything and meet again after the final. Then PSG learned Gigio would run down his contract… and here we are.”

The agent slammed the decision as being financially motivated, not sporting: “Dropping Donnarumma after everything he’s done for the club is an immense lack of respect.” He also dismissed claims that it was about his ball-playing ability: “If we were talking about an extension, it meant he was part of the plans. I don’t think the coach changed his mind in one month.”

Next step? A move to Manchester City, with personal terms already agreed. For Raiola, PSG’s talk of respect rings hollow: “That respect is purely financial.”
