Summer signing Rayan Cherki made the perfect debut in the Premier League on Saturday as Manchester City beat Wolverhampton 4-0 on opening day.
The 22-year-old French midfielder, who arrived from Lyon, came on in the 73rd minute for Erling Haaland (who had scored twice) and found the net just eight minutes later with a superb low right-footed strike from the edge of the box.
Guardiola praises Cherki
Cherki (1 appearance, 1 goal in the Premier League this season) didn’t miss his chance to shine. After the match, Pep Guardiola was full of praise for his new signing:
“His quality in the final third, in tight spaces, is unique. His creativity is excellent, he brings the rhythm we need. There will be many close games where we’ll rely on his special quality in the final third and his pure talent,” said the Catalan coach.
