In a heated exchange following the 0-0 draw between Santos and Fluminense, Neymar didn’t hold back. The 33-year-old attacker challenged Carlo Ancelotti’s explanation for his exclusion from the Brazil national team, citing physical issues as the reason.

Neymar claimed, “I had an edema in my adductor. It was bothersome, but nothing serious; I even played today,” implying that his absence was more about tactics than fitness.

Ancelotti, facing the media, responded to Neymar’s accusations with composure. He acknowledged the player’s comments, saying, “It’s normal for Neymar to express his views. This is a technical decision based on various factors: the player’s performance, his past, and the physical issues he’s faced. When I mention physical criteria, it’s significant to our technical staff.” The former Real Madrid coach emphasized that such evaluations are crucial for the team’s success.

Neymar’s Future with Brazil in Question

Looking ahead, the question looms: Is Neymar’s place in the squad for the 2026 World Cup in jeopardy? Ancelotti reiterated, “No one can question Neymar’s technical abilities. What we assess daily is his physical condition, as well as that of all players under our watch.” This scrutiny has intensified as Brazil prepares for upcoming matches against Chile and Bolivia, with Neymar set to watch from home due to his exclusion.

Despite a series of injuries, including a severe knee problem last October, Neymar has managed to participate in eight of Santos’ last nine games. This return is promising, yet not enough to sway Ancelotti’s decision. As Brazil gears up for the World Cup, fans are left wondering: Will this football icon secure his spot in the 2026 tournament?
