The thrilling showdown between Barça and PSG will now unfold at Montjuïc, not at the iconic Camp Nou. Both clubs were eager to host this Champions League clash at their home ground, but plans have dramatically shifted.
Despite the FC Barcelona’s race against time to return to Spotify Camp Nou, reports suggest that the venue may not be ready in time. Mundo Deportivo indicates that the club is still working on securing occupancy permits.
After facing Valencia and Getafe at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, Barça hopes to welcome Real Sociedad on September 28 at their updated venue. However, the Camp Nou will only accommodate around 27,000 spectators, far below the UEFA requirement of 45,000 for European matches.
Camp Nou Renovations Delay Key Matches
As a result, the highly anticipated European encounter against PSG, scheduled for October 1, is almost certain to be played at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc. Luis Enrique’s team will miss out on a homecoming at Camp Nou.
Barcelona remains optimistic about returning to their renovated home for the later stages of the group phase, especially for the match against Olympiacos on October 21, pending approval from UEFA, which is closely monitoring the renovation progress.
