During PSG’s 2-0 victory over Lens on Sunday, coach Luis Enrique made an unconventional choice by observing the first half from the stands rather than his usual spot on the bench.
This decision raised eyebrows, but Enrique clarified that it wasn’t due to his recent bicycle accident. Instead, it was part of a strategy he had been contemplating for some time.
Enrique revealed his inspiration came from watching rugby coaches, who often analyze the game from a different vantage point. “I’ve been thinking for a long time about how to improve our performance with the staff. Watching from the stands was magnificent!” he shared, emphasizing the benefits of this unique perspective.
A Renewed Experience
Encouraged by the experience, Enrique is considering making this a regular practice. He noted, “It’s different because I can control everything, and it’s an interesting option I could use in the future.” This method allows him to see which players excelled on the pitch, providing valuable insights for post-match discussions.
For the Spanish tactician, the advantages are clear: “You can deliver a perfect team talk because you can see who performed well. It offers a lot of information, and I think it’s positive. I watched the second half in a normal way.” Enrique’s innovative approach could reshape how coaches interact with their teams during games.
