Benjamin Mendy is back in action, this time in Poland. Local media reported his move to Pogoń Szczecin, currently ninth in the league, and the news was officially confirmed on Tuesday evening.
The 2018 World Cup champion has signed a one-year contract with an option for another season. After a stint at FC Zürich, the 30-year-old left-back is eager to reignite his floundering career.
“I’m very happy to be here. I thank the president and the entire staff of the club. I’ve watched Pogoń’s matches on video and loved the atmosphere and the passion of the fans,” Mendy said.
Stadium Atmosphere Influenced Mendy’s Decision
The near-packed stadium at every match was a major factor for Mendy’s decision. “This is what we love about football, and it influenced my choice,” he stated during his presentation.
Now, Mendy aims to regain his rhythm and bring his experience to the Pomeranian club, which is counting on him to help elevate their game.
