A 6-1 victory should have been a celebration for FC Barcelona, but instead, the win over Olympiacos has been overshadowed by fierce controversy. The match was marked by a series of highly questionable refereeing decisions that completely shifted the momentum.
After a VAR-awarded penalty brought Olympiacos back to 2-1, hope flickered for the Greek side — until chaos struck. A harsh second yellow card for Hezze reduced them to ten men, followed soon after by another dubious penalty for Rashford, leaving coach José Luis Mendilibar furious.
“On these pitches, you don’t get gifts — but today, they took everything from us,” raged Mendilibar, blasting the referee and the “useless VAR.”
Meanwhile, Barça boss Hansi Flick refused to engage in the debate: “It’s not my problem. There are favorable and unfavorable decisions. I understand why he’s angry.”
One thing’s for sure: Barça got the win — but not without a storm of controversy.
