It is now official: Lionel Messi will remain at Inter Miami. The Florida club announced the extension of the Argentine star’s contract in a video posted on X, where the 38-year-old World Champion is seen at the construction site of his brand new stadium.
According to AFP, Messi has signed until the end of the 2028 MLS season. This choice will allow him to stay active — and in shape — until the next World Cup. It is also a way to further root his influence in the United States, where he has become much more than a player: an icon of American sports.
“I am really happy to stay here and continue this project which, beyond a dream, has become a wonderful reality — playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park. Since my arrival in Miami, I have felt very happy, so I am really excited to continue here.
The suspense is over: Lionel Messi extends his contract with Miami until 2028!
We are all looking forward to the moment when we can finally play at Miami Freedom Park. We can’t wait for it to be finished — to discover it from the inside, in our new home, and for the supporters to enjoy it too. It will be something very special to play at home in such a spectacular stadium,” Messi said from the construction site of the new stadium.
He’s in. Are you?

“We promised our fans that we would dream big, to build an iconic club. A club that represents the passion, hard work, and dedication of all those who, before us, contributed to building a Miami founded on dreams,” explained Jorge Mas, principal owner of Inter Miami CF. “Leo’s extension until 2028 is a tribute to our incredible city. We look forward to writing new chapters in our Miami Freedom Park stadium. Together, we will continue to build and dream.”
“Our vision was to bring the best players to Inter Miami and to this city, and that is exactly what we have done,” added David Beckham, co-owner of the club. “We have brought the best player in the history of football to our city. This shows our commitment to Miami, but also Leo’s commitment to the city, the club, and the game. He remains as passionate and motivated as ever, and he still wants to win. As owners, having a player who loves this sport so much, who has done so much for football in this country and to inspire the next generation of young talent, is a tremendous opportunity.”
