Lionel Messi has changed his tune again about his time at PSG. Yes, he was unhappy in Paris… but not for the reasons everyone assumed. In an interview with Sport, the Argentine star softened his stance and finally explained what he really experienced in the French capital.
Messi now admits it clearly: he loved Paris — the city, the family life, the fresh start away from Barcelona. “People might think Paris was a nightmare, but it wasn’t,” he said. What broke him wasn’t the city… it was football.
“I wasn’t happy with what I was doing: playing, training, matches. I just didn’t feel good,” he revealed. A major nuance, considering how much his previous comments sounded like a total rejection of his Paris adventure.
“Everything was new… and very hard”
For the first time in his life, Messi had left Barcelona — his home, his world. New country, new routines, new pressure: everything hit him at once. “It was the first time we left Barcelona, and everything was new… very difficult,” he said. The shock affected his performances, his mood and his daily life.
Signed in 2021 and author of 75 games in PSG colours, Messi now paints a far gentler, more human picture of his time in Paris. An imperfect chapter, yes — but nowhere near the “nightmare” many imagined. Calm and settled in Miami, La Pulga is finally setting the record straight.
