You don’t touch Erling Haaland. Especially not there. This Sunday evening at San Siro, the Norwegian giant completely changed the game after being provoked by Gianluca Mancini. The result: a cold fury, two goals in two minutes… and Norway secures its ticket to the 2026 World Cup. Italy, on the other hand, will once again have to go through the playoffs.
Erling Haaland was stung… or rather, touched inappropriately. The Nazionale started strong in front of 69,000 spectators, taking the lead thanks to young Francesco Pio Esposito. But since an improbable +9 was needed to double Norway, the Italians quickly resorted to cunning rather than spectacle. Bad idea.
After Antonio Nusa’s equalizer, chaos erupted in the Italian penalty area: Haaland found himself facing a visibly inspired Mancini… but not in a good way. The Italian defender allegedly started touching his buttocks. Yes, literally. This was enough to trigger Haaland’s berserker mode. Donnarumma even had to hold back his club teammate to prevent a scene worthy of WWE.
“Thanks for the motivation, let’s go!”
Speaking to Norwegian TV, Haaland delivered the punchline of the evening: “At 1-1, he started touching my butt. I thought, ‘What is he doing?’ So I composed myself and told him, ‘Thanks for the motivation, let’s go!’”
And he did just that. A monstrous volley in the 78th minute, a second goal a minute later after a catastrophic Italian clearance, and then the 4-1 scored by Jørgen Strand Larsen in stoppage time. Norway was in full steamroller mode, while Italy was sweating cold bullets.
“After that, I scored two goals, we win 4-1, it’s great. Thanks to him!” concluded Haaland, laughing.
With 16 goals in 8 matches, the Manchester City striker finishes the qualifiers in total cyborg mode, while the Nazionale plunges back into its playoff nightmares.
What’s next? Late March. And all of Italy is already trembling.
