Paris Saint-Germain have changed their strategy in the transfer market and no longer want to enter excessive wage battles. This is exactly the case in the Dayot Upamecano file.
Yes, PSG are interested in Dayot Upamecano, who is coming to the end of his contract with Bayern Munich. But not at any price. The Parisian club have ultimately decided not to match the defender’s financial demands, nor Bayern’s offer, which is reportedly worth around 20 million euros per year.
PSG Sticks to a Stricter Wage Policy
According to information from Fabrice Hawkins for RMC Sport, Paris, like Real Madrid, were closely monitoring the situation of the French international, but without any intention of going that far financially. This clear stance illustrates the new direction taken by PSG, now more cautious with their wage bill and refusing to get into bidding wars.
On their side, Bayern Munich are close to wrapping things up. According to Bild, the last details that were holding up negotiations have been resolved and a final agreement should be reached during January. With this extension, Upamecano’s earnings would indeed rise to around 20 million euros per season. After Bayern’s big friendly win against Salzburg (5-0), the French center-back himself confirmed that talks were going well.
At 27, and after playing 21 matches in all competitions this season, the former Leipzig player is therefore closing in on an extension with the Bavarian club. Even if the salary remains a key point in the talks, the trend is now clearly toward continuing the adventure in Bavaria, while PSG stand by their decision not to go beyond certain financial limits.
