According to journalist Wilson Cox (LFC), Xabi Alonso is now Liverpool’s top priority to succeed Arne Slot in the summer of 2026. And what if Xabi Alonso did not stay without a job for long? Internally, sporting CEO Michael Edwards is said to be strongly pushing for the Spaniard, impressed by his style of play: an intense, possession-based and clearly attacking brand of football that Alonso has brought to perfection at Bayer Leverkusen. But that is not all: his ability to build a strong bond with players and supporters is also highly valued at Anfield.

All of these elements perfectly match Liverpool’s vision for their next cycle.
