AS Monaco does not appear to be short on money: the club has already paid a steep price for Sébastien Pocognoli, who took over as head coach a few weeks ago.
It is an unusual situation that is proving extremely costly. AS Monaco has already paid €425,000 in fines due to the status of its coach Sébastien Pocognoli.
A costly diploma issue for the head coach
The Belgian manager does not hold the BEPF, the mandatory diploma required to officially manage a Ligue 1 team. As a result, the sanction is automatic — a €25,000 fine for every league match played.
The bill is set to almost double, with more than ten matchdays still left to play in Ligue 1 this season.
This is a deliberate choice by the club, which is maintaining its internal confidence despite the growing financial penalty week after week. Monaco is prioritizing sporting continuity — even if it means writing large checks behind the scenes.
