League leaders at the kickoff of Matchday 22 in Ligue 1, PSG suffered a heavy defeat in Rennes (3–1) on Friday night and have completely put RC Lens back into the title race. With only a two-point lead before this match, the Parisian club now gives Lens a golden opportunity to take first place as early as Saturday if they win away at Paris FC.
Paris collapsed in Brittany against a clinical and opportunistic Rennes side. Mousa Al-Tamari opened the scoring, Esteban Lepaul doubled the lead before halftime, and Breel Embolo sealed the match on the counterattack. In between, Ousmane Dembélé briefly gave PSG hope, but it was not enough to prevent the setback.
Rennes Victory Tightens the Top of the Table
The night also marked the notable return of Brice Samba in the Rennes goal, where he proved decisive on several occasions. Rennes confirmed their resurgence despite a recent coaching change, with Sébastien Tambouret serving as interim manager while waiting for Franck Haise.
In the provisional standings, PSG remain top with 51 points but have played one game more, while Lens sit just behind with 49 points and can move ahead. Behind them, Lyon, Marseille, and Rennes also benefit from Paris’ slip-up and close the gap. The battle for first place has been completely reignited.
