“A Knife in the Back”: The Pogba Clan Speaks Out

Things are getting more complicated for Paul Pogba in Monaco. Hampered by injuries since his return, the French midfielder has barely played and has even been left off the UEFA list. His brother Mathias Pogba shared a blunt assessment on RMC.

Mathias Pogba is clear-eyed about his brother Paul’s situation. Speaking to RMC, the AS Monaco player’s brother no longer has many illusions. It feels like the end of the road in Monaco. “It’s frustration — not just for him but for the whole family. I told him he couldn’t come back at 100% right away. We expected more from his return. Reality caught up with him. His body was no longer used to that kind of high-intensity rhythm. We’re not robots. When you come back, you have to take it step by step or your body sends signals. That’s exactly what’s happening to him,” said the 35-year-old former player.

Mental Strain and Uncertain Future

According to him, the toughest part now is mental: “We are patient and resilient. He will need that patience to get back to his best level. He’s working hard. It becomes more painful mentally. You have a lot of expectations. You’re excited, and then you get another knife in the back.”

“It’s about bouncing back again and again. It’s everything combined. There’s the desire to return to the pitch, but the body says not to go too fast. There are percentages everywhere — physical, cardio, mental. You have to be patient. We’ve always taken it day by day.” Under contract until 2027, Paul Pogba is moving forward without clear visibility. “We’ve always gone day by day. There are no projections,” Mathias concluded.
