Medhi Benatia announced his resignation from his position as sporting director of Olympique de Marseille the day after the 2–2 draw against Strasbourg, through a long message addressed to supporters. However, he did not clearly explain the reasons for his departure.

He states that he submitted his resignation several days earlier so as not to become an obstacle for the club.

He is also reportedly facing internal criticism over the handling of Roberto De Zerbi’s departure and the team’s recent results. As a consequence, Marseille’s sporting leadership is now weakened, with a management structure in crisis and Longoria on the front line.
