According to RMC Sport, during a meeting held on Tuesday, February 17 with representatives of several OM supporters’ groups, Frank McCourt, accompanied by Medhi Benatia, indicated that the arrival of Habib Beye as the new head coach was very likely.

Habib Beye is coming — but not just yet. His appointment at OM is tied to the approval of the LFP legal commission to confirm his contractual release from Rennes. The coach is reportedly ready to accept a short-term mission, which has helped move discussions forward. McCourt also reaffirmed his long-term commitment to the club and announced his intention to appoint a new president soon.

Coaching Decision Delayed by Legal Approval

According to RMC Sport, the American shareholder gathered department directors to call for unity and focus on immediate sporting objectives. Other coaching options were explored, including Xabi Alonso, but the club’s unstable context reportedly did not favor that possibility.

Longoria does not want to become a figurehead president. Medhi Benatia is said to have suggested that he is extending mainly out of duty to McCourt and the club, without any guarantee beyond next summer. McCourt justified keeping Pablo Longoria in an institutional role to preserve the club’s influence within governing bodies, despite his withdrawal from sporting matters, but the Spaniard is reportedly unwilling to serve as a ceremonial president and is set to leave OM.

The businessman also acknowledged that he did not appreciate the banners displayed at the Vélodrome, reminding supporters of his personal investment and calling for their backing. Discussions also addressed the club’s chronic instability. Management stressed the need to qualify for the Champions League with a podium finish while also targeting victory in the Coupe de France. Finally, McCourt assured, again according to RMC Sport, that a sale of OM is not being considered.
