After the match, coach Liam Rosenior explained that the gathering was simply meant to show the team’s unity and that there was nothing disrespectful about it. “My players decided to gather around the ball to show their unity, it wasn’t my decision,” he said. Despite the unusual pre-match scene, Chelsea ultimately lost the game 1-0 to Newcastle.
