Paris Saint-Germain took advantage of a weekend without a match to extend its lead at the top of Ligue 1. While the Parisians focus on their UEFA Champions League clash against Chelsea FC, their main challenger, RC Lens, suffered a defeat on the pitch of FC Lorient (2-1).
A loss that benefits the capital club. The Merlus opened the scoring through Bamba Dieng in the 18th minute. Odsonne Édouard brought the teams level shortly after halftime (49’), but Tosin Adarabioyo ultimately secured the win for the Bretons just past the hour mark (65’).
Lens Slip Gives PSG a Chance to Build a Bigger Gap
With this setback, Lens remains second in the standings. PSG could now hold up to a four-point lead while still having a game in hand. The postponed match against FC Nantes could allow the Parisians to widen the gap further, provided they approach the fixture with focus.
Meanwhile, Lorient climbs to eighth place and can still dream of qualifying for European competition.
