Dembélé and PSG: Talks Have Stalled

At Paris Saint-Germain, the Ousmane Dembélé file is indeed on the table… but not at the top of the pile. As major deadlines approach, the club has chosen to take its time. A contract extension is currently on hold for the French international.

Under contract until June 2028, the winger has already held discussions with his management regarding a renewal. However, according to the current trend reported by L’Équipe, there is no urgency. PSG prefers to move forward with other priority cases, notably those of Senny Mayulu and Bradley Barcola.

Timing and performance take priority at PSG

The message internally is clear: it’s all about timing. Both the player and the club’s leadership are aligned on this point. Now is not the time for negotiations, but for performances on the pitch. The remainder of PSG’s European campaign could change everything.

If the club underperforms in the Champions League, especially with an early exit before the final, management could be tempted to open a new cycle. Such a scenario would inevitably revive discussions around Dembélé, whose first half of the season was disrupted by injuries. Conversely, if the former Rennes player strings together top-level performances and leads Paris all the way, his leverage in future negotiations will be significantly strengthened.

PSG insists it wants to “respect” its winger, even mentioned as a potential Ballon d’Or 2025 contender. But beyond sporting considerations, the financial aspect will be decisive. In case of a deadlock, several doors could open for Dembélé, particularly in England or Saudi Arabia. However, the player himself does not want to rush things: no serious discussions are expected before the end of the 2026 World Cup.
