Doubt is growing around Neymar. At 34, the Santos FC forward still hopes to compete in the 2026 World Cup with Brazil, but some observers are becoming increasingly skeptical.
A North American World Cup without Neymar is becoming more and more likely. Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he will only call up Neymar if he is in peak condition by June. That seems far from the case. And the coach’s opinion is shared by several former iconic players of the Seleção.
Growing Criticism Over Neymar’s Physical Condition
This is particularly true for Raí, a former Paris Saint-Germain player, who has been very critical of his compatriot’s current state. According to him, repeated injuries have significantly affected Neymar’s level of performance.
“He’s not in great shape, he’s had many physical issues. He can’t get back to his level, he’s lost speed. Of course, he still makes good passes, he’s a genius, but I think today he doesn’t have the level,” he said on RMC.
Absent from the Brazilian national team since October 2023, Neymar’s international future is looking increasingly uncertain as time goes on.
