Olympique de Marseille may have secured a valuable win against Le Havre (1-0), but after the match, it was mainly the media tensions surrounding Mason Greenwood that dominated the reactions from the Marseille camp.
Is the tide finally turning for Habib Beye? After a turbulent week and a chaotic training camp at La Commanderie, the victory came as a relief for OM. Scorer of the winning penalty, English forward Mason Greenwood celebrated with a long embrace with his coach.
Greenwood and Beye Respond to Criticism
The gesture was far from insignificant following the many rumors this week about an alleged clash between the two men. Clearly irritated, Habib Beye used his appearance on Ligue 1+ to settle scores with some of the reports circulating in recent days. “When I hear that I had a clash and stopped training because of Mason… those are lies,” the Marseille coach said.
The Senegalese manager also denounced what he sees as a growing media drift around the club. “Nothing gets verified anymore, it’s a race for information and misinformation. It saddens me in this profession,” he insisted, while also publicly praising his player’s attitude after the goal.
For his part, Mason Greenwood also wanted to put an end to the rumors once and for all. “Habib is a good guy, I believe in him and he believes in me. We’re doing good work,” said the former Manchester United player, who also mentioned a minor injury that had disrupted his week. In an already tense atmosphere around OM, the sequence between Greenwood and Beye looked like a direct response to the criticism and speculation surrounding the Marseille dressing room in recent days.
