Initially reported as doubtful for the 2026 World Cup after finishing the Champions League final against PSG while struggling physically, William Saliba ultimately does not appear to be causing any concern within the France national team camp.
Deschamps eases fears over Saliba. The Arsenal defender had been dealing with a back issue before the match but still played the entire final, which PSG won on penalties on Saturday. Several media outlets later suggested he could miss the tournament or face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Deschamps Reassures France Over Saliba
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Didier Deschamps dismissed those rumors. The France head coach stated that he had “not read anything” regarding the alarming reports surrounding the defender’s condition.
“Everything is fine.” “He is here, everything is fine,” Deschamps simply said, appearing completely relaxed about the fitness of one of his key players just days before the start of the competition.
The comments will come as a major relief for France supporters, with Saliba expected to play a crucial role in the team’s ambitions at the 2026 World Cup.
