Less than two weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup, Didier Deschamps already appears to have a very clear idea of his starting lineup.

Deschamps already has his team in mind. Asked during a press conference, the France manager admitted that he already knows who he wants to start against Senegal on June 16. “Of course I have it in my head,” he replied with a smile.

However, the France boss remains cautious. Two warm-up matches still await Les Bleus, against Ivory Coast on Thursday and Northern Ireland next Monday. Between now and then, some players could still strengthen their case—or lose ground. “But you never know. There are two matches before then, and things can happen. You probably have a little idea yourselves. Out of eleven names, you’d probably get a decent score,” Deschamps joked.

The battle for places remains intense within the squad. Deschamps knows that every player dreams of being in the starting lineup. “They all want to start,” he reminded reporters, while insisting that the coaching staff will closely monitor any frustrations. “We’ll be careful about the frustration that can be created. Given the specific conditions in the United States and the gaps between matches, we’ll learn more as we go,” he added.

One thing is certain: the French manager already has a strong idea of his preferred team. The only question now is which players will earn the privilege of starting France’s World Cup campaign against Senegal.
