As Zinedine Zidane’s expected appointment as France manager after the 2026 World Cup draws closer, the former Real Madrid coach is reportedly already planning his future setup. And he does not appear willing to simply continue the work established by Didier Deschamps.
According to L’Équipe, Zidane wants to start with a clean slate and implement his own structure within the national team. The overhaul would affect both the sporting side and the staff surrounding the French squad.
Barthez Tipped for Goalkeeper Coach Role
One of the first changes under consideration concerns the goalkeeping department. Franck Raviot, a key member of the French coaching staff since 2010, could step aside after sixteen years working with Les Bleus.
To replace him, Zidane is reportedly considering Fabien Barthez. The 1998 World Cup winner and Euro 2000 champion shares a long-standing relationship with Zidane and could become part of the future national team structure.
If these plans are confirmed, they would signal the beginning of a new era for France, with a significantly reshaped coaching staff and a clear identity built around Zidane after more than a decade under the Deschamps regime.
