Chelsea Have Already Spent Nearly €342m in the Transfer Market

Chelsea appear to know no limits in the transfer market. As of July 30, the London club had reportedly committed around €342 million to strengthening the squad managed by Xabi Alonso, based on the reported fees for their various signings.

Maxence Lacroix has joined Chelsea, but his transfer represents only a small part of another extraordinary summer for the Blues. The biggest deal involves Morgan Rogers, who left Aston Villa for around £117 million, approximately €138 million. The England international has become the most expensive British player in history and Chelsea’s record signing.

The Blues have also paid around €60 million to sign Lacroix from Crystal Palace. Before him, Chelsea invested nearly €57 million in Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra, while Geovany Quenda officially arrived from Sporting Portugal in a deal estimated at €50 million. Emmanuel Emegha, Alves Denner and Dastan Satpaev complete the list of arrivals included in the calculation.

Altogether, the reported fees for Rogers, Lacroix, Palestra, Quenda, Emegha, Denner and Satpaev amount to approximately €342.4 million. The figure remains indicative, however, as some deals may include bonuses and Chelsea rarely disclose transfer fees officially.

The club’s recruitment drive may not be over. Chelsea are still considering moves for Jordan Henderson, Danny Welbeck and Valentin Barco, although none of them should yet be included in the total. After finishing last season well away from the leading positions, the Blues have clearly decided to overhaul their squad and have established themselves as one of the biggest spenders of the summer window.
