Juventus have now abandoned their pursuit of Emiliano Martinez. According to The Athletic, the Turin club and Aston Villa were unable to reach an agreement over the transfer fee for the Argentine goalkeeper.
Emiliano Martinez is once again struggling to secure a move away from Aston Villa. Barring a dramatic turnaround, the 33-year-old World Cup winner will remain at Villa this summer. It is a surprising situation, as the Villans are reportedly close to signing Zion Suzuki from Parma.
Suzuki Set to Become Aston Villa’s Number One
Despite Martinez remaining in the squad, The Athletic reports that Zion Suzuki is expected to arrive as Aston Villa’s new first-choice goalkeeper. The Japanese international, whose proposed transfer to PSG recently collapsed, could therefore completely reshape the hierarchy in Birmingham. Martinez may find himself in a difficult position if no other club makes a move before the transfer window closes.
Juventus, meanwhile, have wasted no time in turning to another target. The Bianconeri are now pushing Tottenham to secure Guglielmo Vicario, with the Italian club hoping to arrange a paid loan for the 29-year-old goalkeeper. Vicario is reportedly open to returning to Serie A and would like to join Juventus.
After failing to land Martinez, Juventus are therefore looking to move quickly for another top-level goalkeeper. Talks with Tottenham over Vicario are expected to become one of the key transfer stories in Turin during the final stages of the window.
