Paris Saint-Germain could soon make a move for Guéla Doué. Monitored for several weeks, the RC Strasbourg defender is now viewed as a very concrete option to strengthen Luis Enrique’s squad before the transfer window closes.
Could Guéla Doué be heading to PSG? According to Sacha Tavolieri, the club are closely monitoring the Ivory Coast international’s situation and initial talks have already taken place regarding a possible deal. The negotiations have not yet entered a decisive phase, but Paris have clearly begun making progress.
Strasbourg Want Around €40 Million for Guéla Doué
PSG’s priority has been clear for several weeks: to sign a versatile right-sided defender. Luis Campos is not simply looking for a backup to Achraf Hakimi, but rather a player capable of operating on the right flank while also providing cover in central defence. Doué fits that profile well. The 23-year-old is naturally a right-back, can also play in a back three and has the athletic qualities PSG are looking for. Under contract with Strasbourg until June 2029, he also represents a potentially valuable long-term investment.
Paris’ interest is not new. At the beginning of August, L’Équipe had already reported that PSG had placed Doué on their shortlist to strengthen the right side of the defence. At the time, the move was not considered a priority, with Paris seemingly favouring a right-footed centre-back capable of shifting out wide, while Warren Zaïre-Emery could also provide cover behind Hakimi. However, the situation has since developed, and the contacts reported by Sacha Tavolieri suggest PSG have now moved beyond the information-gathering stage.
The main obstacle is Strasbourg’s asking price, believed to be around €40 million. The figure is high, but reflects both the length of Doué’s contract and Racing’s determination not to sell an important starter cheaply. Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly already been put off by Strasbourg’s demands. PSG could therefore attempt to negotiate or wait until the final days of the window to see whether Strasbourg soften their position. Luis Campos recently reiterated that Paris would remain active until the final day, both for departures and arrivals. Doué ticks several boxes for Luis Enrique and, with PSG still looking to fine-tune their defence, his situation could quickly become one of the hottest stories of the closing stages of the window. A move would also reunite Guéla with his brother Désiré Doué, with whom he came through the academy at Stade Rennais.
