Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (35), the Gabonese striker, has opened up about the traumatic experience he went through during the violent home robbery at his residence in Barcelona in 2022. This experience has left lasting emotional scars.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, Aubameyang spoke candidly about the deep emotional impact the incident had on his family, particularly his children, who directly suffered the consequences of the robbery.

“If I had been alone, it wouldn’t have been a problem. I can handle it because I’ve been mentally prepared for anything in life, thanks to my parents. But when you have a wife and kids, it’s different. My children, after the incident, told me: ‘Dad, I don’t want to go to school, I’m afraid something might happen.’ For a year, my youngest son said: ‘I can’t sleep alone.’ It was a tough battle. You carry it in your mind all the time. I spent many sleepless nights, just thinking about it. You have nightmares,” Aubameyang recalled.

“Every time my kids are alone, they get scared. I still have that house, but I haven’t returned since. I think I’ll start renting it out because my children don’t want to go back to Barcelona. Their school had even planned a trip there, but they said they won’t go. I made a mistake by not talking to anyone about it. If I had someone to talk to, like a therapist or a psychologist, it might have helped. But I didn’t want to do anything. Honestly, I was lost,” Aubameyang continued.

This traumatic experience has left deep emotional scars, making it difficult for the footballer to move past the incident, affecting both his family life and his well-being.
