Endrick and Lyon are currently linked through a loan deal that is costly in every sense of the word. However, the club knows how to reduce the overall bill. Real Madrid have been very clear on this matter.
Matthieu Louis-Jean explained how Endrick’s loan move to Olympique Lyonnais works during the winter transfer window. The club’s technical director detailed that a specific clause was included in the agreement reached with Real Madrid for the 19-year-old Brazilian striker.
A performance-based clause reduces the loan fee
According to him, the structure includes an incentive mechanism: the more matches the player plays, the less Lyon pay for the loan. “There is a deal structure that means the more he plays, the less we pay,” he said, describing it as a win-win setup. “For now, the agreement is that Endrick is with us until the end of the season. That is the deal discussed with Real Madrid. There is no issue or ambiguity about that,” he told RMC.
He also clarified how the discussions unfolded: “We contacted Endrick’s entourage first to try to convince him. Very quickly I got in touch with the player’s agents, and just as quickly Michael Gerlinger contacted Real Madrid. We immediately began negotiations to explain the OL project to him. We were one of the only clubs without a true starting number 9 in the squad,” Louis-Jean concluded.
