Olympique de Marseille want to believe in De Zerbi. Despite a turbulent period and inconsistent results, the OM head coach has sought to clear up any ambiguity about his future. This Friday, Roberto De Zerbi stated that he is fully committed to a long-term project on the Marseille bench, driven by undiminished motivation.
“I have the strength to stay at Marseille for another five or six years, because I love it, it’s my passion,” he told the press, stressing the constant support of his dressing room. “I also see that the players support me. So that’s not the issue. What frustrates me, obviously, is defeat. Losing like this, being inconsistent. It’s not a question of passion, but rather a feeling of helplessness at times. I would have liked us to have a different run and potentially lose in another way. These are defeats that leave a mark. We have the strength to get back up, as always. The players have great human and sporting qualities. Now we need to string together two wins, because with two wins, we could look at things from a different perspective.”
A United Squad Despite the Rumors
The relationship with the players, in particular, is said to be in no way weakened. Faced with rumors of a rift, De Zerbi remains categorical: his group is still firmly behind him. Discussions have once again taken place with several senior players in recent days, in a climate he describes as healthy and respectful.
“My players have always followed me. They have their own personalities, which can be different from mine. Yesterday, I spoke with seven or eight players, the most experienced ones. Of course, there are players who get less playing time and would like to play more, and I understand that they may not be happy. But I have always had strong relationships with my players, in Marseille and elsewhere, always based on respect. Sometimes, when I’m not followed, it’s more on the footballing side, not mentally. That’s why I continue to defend my players; there is no friction,” assured the former Brighton coach.
For OM, the moment of truth is approaching. Marseille will take on Paris FC on Saturday in Ligue 1, before traveling to Rennes on Tuesday in the Coupe de France. Two decisive fixtures to reignite momentum—and to reinforce a coach who says he is ready to commit for the long haul.
