Olympique de Marseille avoided a major departure last winter. According to L’Équipe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had several serious offers from Spain during the January transfer window. A few months later, however, the door now seems wide open for an exit.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could have left OM in the middle of the winter. Real Betis and especially Atlético Madrid reportedly tried to sign the Gabonese striker after his excellent first half of the season with Marseille.
Marseille Looking to Cut Major Salary Costs
At the time, Pablo Longoria completely blocked the move. The former Marseille president considered Aubameyang a key figure in the dressing room and refused to lose his main striker in the middle of the campaign.
The future of the 36-year-old striker now looks far more uncertain ahead of the summer transfer window. With only one year remaining on his contract, OM could this time allow a transfer in order to reduce an important wage bill.
According to the same reports, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earns around €350,000 gross per month in Marseille. A massive salary that the club’s new management would like to save in order to prepare for the next transfer market.
