Could Julian Alvarez join PSG as early as the January transfer window? The Argentine striker is once again being linked with the French champions. However, that possibility now appears far less obvious than it did a few months ago. Paris significantly reshaped its attacking department this summer, most notably signing Ferran Torres, who is perfectly capable of playing as a centre-forward.
According to Fichajes, FC Barcelona have now stepped back from the Julian Alvarez pursuit. The Catalan club reportedly believe the financial demands of such a deal would be too difficult to meet, with Atletico Madrid having no intention of making it easy for their striker to leave. PSG and Arsenal are therefore being mentioned among the clubs that could make a move, potentially as early as January, although these claims should be treated with considerable caution.
Ferran Torres Changes the Situation for PSG
A lot has changed since the first rumours linking Alvarez with Paris emerged. PSG spent around €50 million to sign Ferran Torres this summer. The Spain international signed a contract until 2031, was handed the No. 9 shirt and can operate through the middle. Luis Enrique therefore already has another option in the position Alvarez would potentially occupy. Paris also strengthened its attack with Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts, while Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia remain key members of the squad.
Under these circumstances, adding Alvarez only a few months after making major investments in the summer transfer window does not necessarily appear to be a priority. There is also another major obstacle: his price. Under contract with Atletico Madrid, Alvarez has considerable market value and the Spanish club would have little reason to sell him cheaply. Any potential deal could therefore comfortably exceed €100 million, representing another huge investment for PSG after already spending heavily to reshape their attack.
Alvarez’s name continues to be linked with Paris, particularly in the Spanish media, but no concrete PSG move has been confirmed at this stage. A January transfer appears even more uncertain given the recent arrival of Ferran Torres. Unless there is a major departure from the attacking department or Luis Enrique decides to overhaul his forward line once again, Alvarez currently looks more like a transfer-market possibility than an advanced operation.
