One of the legal chapters in the dispute between Kylian Mbappé and PSG has come to an end. The criminal proceedings launched following allegations of psychological harassment and attempted coercion to sign a contract made by the former Paris player have been dismissed. The judges ruled that there was insufficient evidence to pursue the case.
The standoff between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain continues on other fronts, but this particular case is now closed. According to Le Parisien and AFP, the investigating judges handling the criminal inquiry issued a dismissal order at the end of May, concluding that there were no “sufficient grounds” for prosecution. The decision came several months after the France captain withdrew his complaint.
Mbappé had withdrawn his complaint in July 2025
Mbappé initially took legal action in May 2025, with a judicial investigation opened the following month into allegations including psychological harassment and attempted coercion to sign a contract. However, the Real Madrid forward changed strategy and withdrew his complaint in July 2025. A source close to the case told AFP at the time that the withdrawal made it considerably more difficult to continue the investigation. The judges have now closed the proceedings, while neither PSG nor Mbappé’s lawyer commented on the decision when contacted by AFP.
At the heart of the allegations was Mbappé’s treatment during the summer of 2023. After informing PSG that he would not activate the option to extend his contract until 2025, the striker was temporarily excluded from the first-team squad and trained alongside several players deemed surplus to requirements, in a group quickly nicknamed the “loft.” Mbappé believed the situation was part of an attempt to pressure him either into extending his contract or accepting a transfer. He was eventually reintegrated and played one final season in Paris before joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.
The dismissal of the criminal case is separate from the financial dispute between Mbappé and PSG. In December 2025, the Parisian club was ordered to pay its former player nearly €61 million in unpaid wages, bonuses and holiday pay, a ruling PSG did not appeal. Mbappé therefore prevailed in the financial case, while the criminal investigation linked in particular to his exclusion in 2023 has ended without prosecution due to insufficient evidence.
