Kylian Mbappé has congratulated Paris Saint-Germain for finally winning the Champions League, a trophy that eluded him during his seven seasons with the club. Just a year after his departure for Real Madrid, PSG has achieved the elusive victory that Mbappé sought but never secured in his time in the Rouge & Bleu.

During an appearance on M6, the Real Madrid star played the diplomat. Despite the ongoing financial tensions with PSG, he expressed no regret about his move. “I was happy; I have many friends on the team. PSG means a lot to me, as it’s the club I spent the most time with. It was bound to happen; they’ve been close for years and finally made it. PSG is entering a new dimension,” he stated.

In his final months at PSG, Mbappé famously remarked, “If I tied my future to the Champions League — and I don’t mean disrespect to the club — I would have gone far away.” This belief significantly influenced his decision to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, convinced that only the Madrid club could deliver him the Champions League title. Ironically, just months later, PSG won the trophy without him.

Reflecting on his departure, Mbappé said in June, “Did I leave too early? No. My story was over; it needed to end. I have no bitterness; I reached the end of the road. I would have tried everything. It’s just destiny that it happened without me. PSG winning the Champions League doesn’t affect me. It’s a good thing.”

One summer later, Mbappé clapped for his former club, but now his focus shifts squarely to bringing the Champions League to Madrid. The stakes are high, but it has become his number one goal.
