One game in and Luis Enrique already has a major selection headache. Introduced at half-time against Rennes, Ferran Torres scored twice to rescue PSG from defeat in a 2-2 draw. It was a stunning first appearance that could quickly reshape the attacking hierarchy.
Ferran Torres made a huge impact in just a few minutes. Speaking on RMC, Daniel Riolo believes the situation has now changed. Until now, PSG’s starting XI was relatively easy to predict for the biggest matches. After Rennes, that is no longer the case.
Torres puts pressure on PSG’s attacking stars
“Before, there was no question: for a big game, we could basically name the line-up. Now, after what happened on Sunday, Friday’s line-up will be an event,” the journalist said on After Foot, before adding: “Ferran Torres is a different story.”
The question is simple: can Luis Enrique really put Ferran Torres back on the bench after his brace? Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were both substituted at half-time in Rennes, while Torres made the most of his opportunity. The first major decision is therefore expected against Lille.
Luis Enrique has already warned that places in the team will be even harder to earn this season. His starting XI against Lille on Friday should therefore provide the first real indication of PSG’s new attacking hierarchy.
