The Hakimi saga has taken another twist. While his agent recently reignited speculation by claiming that “anything can happen” despite a contract running until 2029, the truth is much more straightforward: Achraf Hakimi already rejected Real Madrid months ago.
Trained in Madrid and still emotionally linked to his boyhood club, the Moroccan defender nevertheless has no intention of returning. According to Diario AS, Real Madrid offered him a comeback for 2026 back in October. Hakimi said no.
Convinced by Luis Enrique’s project and by his role as a key figure in Paris, the full-back preferred to extend his stay until 2029 rather than jump back into an uncertain Madrid adventure.
This clarification completely changes the tone of the story. Officially, his agent keeps things vague, Hakimi is “happy in Paris,” but “Madrid is his home.” Yet the facts don’t lie: when the decisive moment came, Hakimi chose PSG and turned Real down.
Hakimi’s refusal, and his love for PSG
In search of a long-term successor to Carvajal, Real Madrid had to shift their focus to Trent Alexander-Arnold after running into Hakimi’s refusal. Proof that despite rumours, nostalgia, and carefully worded statements, Hakimi has already picked his side: PSG is his present and his future.
The saga isn’t over, it never is with Real and PSG, but one thing is now crystal clear: the last time Madrid came knocking, Achraf Hakimi simply said no.
