Despite the jubilant celebrations following PSG’s emphatic Champions League final win on Saturday night in Munich, the Allianz Arena pitch will be ready to host the Nations League later this week.
Germany is outraged. The pitch was stormed by hundreds of Parisian fans, leading to serious damage: a broken goalpost, a torn net, and patches of turf ripped out by fans celebrating a historic victory.
But there’s no need to panic. Repair work began overnight. Thanks to hybrid roll-out turf technology, around 40 square meters near the penalty area were replaced. Allianz Arena director Jürgen Muth was reassuring: “This is routine for us. The pitch will be ready on time.”
“Missing chunks near the goal”
Still, some concerns linger within the German camp — especially from goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who has just returned from a major injury. “There are missing chunks near the goalmouth. It’s not ideal for footing, and the injury risk is real,” he warned.
Meanwhile, UEFA is not taking the chaos lightly. A hefty fine is reportedly being prepared for PSG due to the material damage and repeated violations of competition rules (pitch invasion, flares, political banner). One thing is clear: PSG’s celebration left its mark — and not just on club history.
