Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s star, revealed that he seriously considered joining the Saudi Arabian league before extending his contract with the Reds last April.

Salah could have said goodbye to the Reds. The Egyptian international, who had an outstanding season with 29 goals in the Premier League, admitted that Saudi Arabia presented him with an interesting opportunity.

In an interview for On Sport, Salah shared, “I thought there was a good opportunity to join the Saudi league. I thought I could go there if I didn’t renew my contract with Liverpool.” This statement confirms rumors that had been circulating for several months, suggesting that Saudi Arabia was highly interested in the Egyptian star.

Serious Negotiations

The attacker also pointed out that “serious negotiations” had taken place, emphasizing the genuine interest in him. However, Salah mentioned that his relationship with the Saudi officials remained good, leaving the door open for a future collaboration with the Saudi league. No mention was made of PSG, despite negotiations reportedly taking place.

Salah’s current contract with Liverpool runs until June 2027. While a move to Saudi Arabia didn’t happen this year, the saga could well resume once his deal with the Reds ends, when conditions may be more favorable for a transfer. For now, the player remains focused on his future at Liverpool, where he continues to shine.
