Lamine Yamal, the 18-year-old prodigy, faced disappointment after losing the Ballon d’Or to Ousmane Dembélé. But it was his father’s fiery reaction that stole the headlines.
Mounir Nasraoui, Yamal’s father, sparked outrage by alleging a conspiracy following Dembélé’s victory. He spoke of ‘moral prejudice’ and described the ceremony as ‘very strange’, igniting a storm of controversy in Catalonia.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta stepped in to cool tensions during an interview on RAC1, subtly criticizing Yamal’s father while defending the young star.
Yamal Handles Pressure, His Father Less So
“Yamal’s father is very passionate… we must remember his son is just 18, and this all happened so quickly for them,” Laporta noted, emphasizing the pressures faced by young athletes.
He added, “Yamal handles pressure exceptionally well. Finishing second at 18 is extraordinary. I’m convinced he’ll win the Ballon d’Or next year,” highlighting the player’s maturity and professionalism.
