Appearing on Catalan channel 3Cat, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke openly about his current relationship with Lionel Messi, despite the painful separation in 2021. According to Laporta, the door is not closed — and a tribute to the eight-time Ballon d’Or is still very much planned.
Laporta Extends an Olive Branch
Since Messi’s departure to PSG, tensions have lingered. The Argentine legend has never fully forgiven the way his exit was handled. But Laporta is determined to heal the wound and bring Messi back to the Camp Nou — not as a player, but as a legend.
Laporta made it clear: Messi and I had a very strong relationship. When his contract couldn’t be renewed, everything stopped. But we’ve partially restored that bond. We hope to give him the tribute he deserves.

A Final Farewell at Camp Nou?
Will Messi return for one last standing ovation in front of the Barça faithful? Laporta is preparing for it. Now, all that remains is for Messi to accept the invitation.
Barcelona wants closure. The fans want their hero back. The story of Messi and Barça may not be over… not yet.
