A major blow for Serge Gnabry. The Bayern Munich forward has announced that he will not take part in the upcoming World Cup with Germany after suffering a serious adductor injury in his right thigh.

Injured late last week, the German international is dealing with a muscle tear that brings his season to an abrupt end. He will miss not only the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, but also the World Cup scheduled for this summer. On Instagram, the 30-year-old did not hide his disappointment.

“Like the rest of the country, I will support the guys from home,” he added. “Now it’s time to focus on recovery and come back for pre-season.”

Bayern Munich had mentioned a lengthy absence without specifying a timeline, but German media report a recovery period of two to four months. A significant setback for the Bavarian club, still competing in both the German Cup and the Champions League. To cope, coach Vincent Kompany will notably rely on the gradual return of Jamal Musiala.
