Chelsea have completed a major transfer coup. The London club have officially announced the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, confirming a record-breaking deal after several days of negotiations.

Rogers will now have to live up to his new status. The England international has signed a contract with the Blues until 2033. Chelsea reportedly paid around £117 million, approximately €137 million, to secure his services. At 23, he becomes the most expensive signing in the club’s history, surpassing Moisés Caicedo, as well as the most expensive British player of all time.

Rogers Shone at the World Cup

Rogers finished third at the 2026 World Cup with England, featuring in seven of his country’s eight matches. Able to play as a winger or attacking midfielder, he is also coming off his best Premier League season, scoring ten goals for Aston Villa. Having joined Villa in 2024, he leaves after 125 appearances and 31 goals, as well as a Europa League triumph. Rogers scored in the 3-0 final victory over Freiburg, helping Villa win their first major European trophy since 1982.

His arrival should significantly strengthen Chelsea’s attack. Rogers brings power, direct running and an ability to operate between the lines. He also becomes the leading symbol of the Blues’ new project following a disappointing tenth-place finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea have already been highly active this summer. Marco Palestra arrived from Atalanta for around €55 million, while Geovany Quenda officially joined from Sporting Portugal in a deal worth approximately €50 million. The Blues have also signed Brazilian defender Denner, Dutch striker Emmanuel Emegha and young Kazakh forward Dastan Satpaev. With Rogers now added to that group, Chelsea’s spending has reached another extraordinary level, and their transfer business may not be over yet.
