Major setback for Paris Saint-Germain just ten days before the Club World Cup kicks off. Ousmane Dembélé has officially been ruled out of Sunday’s France vs. Germany clash — and is now very likely to miss the tournament with PSG.

The diagnosis dropped on Friday: following his early exit against Spain in the Nations League semi-final, Dembélé has been diagnosed with a muscle lesion in his left quadriceps. According to Le Parisien, further tests are scheduled, but early indications are pessimistic. The winger is already under PSG’s medical supervision, and his absence for the Club World Cup is increasingly probable.

According to L’Équipe, the Paris Saint-Germain attacker could be sidelined for two to three weeks, meaning he will miss PSG’s opening Club World Cup match against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, June 15.

Barcola Spared, No Serious Damage

Bradley Barcola also returned to Paris after sustaining a knock to his right knee against Spain. While the injury doesn’t appear serious, the French staff opted not to take any chances. PSG is hopeful he will be fit in time for the tournament.

Alarm Bells Ringing in Paris

With both Dembélé and Barcola unavailable, only Warren Zaïre-Emery, Lucas Hernandez, and Désiré Doué will represent PSG in Sunday’s 3rd place Nations League match. But it’s Dembélé’s injury that raises the biggest red flag — Luis Enrique had planned on making the former Barça man a key part of his strategy for the Club World Cup.

With less than two weeks before kickoff, PSG are officially on high alert.
