A major setback for Hugo Ekitike. The Liverpool FC striker will not play again this season and will miss the World Cup following his serious injury against Paris Saint-Germain (0-2).

Hugo Ekitike will not be heading to the USA. The French forward suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon at Anfield and will be sidelined for several months. An absence confirmed by head coach Didier Deschamps: “Hugo suffered a serious injury on Tuesday night against PSG. The severity of his injury will unfortunately prevent him from finishing the season with Liverpool and from taking part in the World Cup.”

A Major Blow for Both Player and National Team

The France manager also emphasized the human and sporting impact: “Hugo is one of around ten young players who made their debut for the national team in recent months. He had integrated perfectly into the group, both on and off the pitch. This injury is a huge blow for him, of course, but also for the France team. His disappointment is immense.”

“Hugo will return to his best level, I am convinced,” Deschamps added, choosing to remain optimistic. “I wanted to show him my full support, as well as that of the entire staff. We know he will be fully behind the France team, and we are all thinking of him.”

Stretchered off in tears in the 28th minute, Ekitike could be out for eight to nine months according to specialists. A brutal halt for the 23-year-old striker, who had been enjoying an excellent season with 17 goals and 6 assists.
