International break chaos has struck Manchester City, and Pep Guardiola certainly didn’t need this as he gears up for the derby against Manchester United. The injury list is alarming, with key players sidelined at a critical juncture of the season.
The latest setback comes from Omar Marmoush, who suffered a knee injury while playing for Egypt against Burkina Faso. A brutal tackle early in the match left him on crutches with a ligament contusion, ruling him out for the clash against United.
In addition to Marmoush, Rayan Cherki is set to miss two months due to a quadriceps tear. The injury woes don’t stop there; Khuzanov (calf), John Stones (muscle), Rico Lewis, Nico O’Reilly, and Aït-Nouri (ankle) have all joined the growing list of absentees.
Injury Crisis Deepens Before Premier League and Champions League Returns
To make matters worse, Savinho, Foden, Bobb, Gvardiol, Bettinelli, and Kovacic (recovering from Achilles tendon surgery) are also unavailable.
In total, a staggering 12 players are dealing with injuries of varying degrees, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Amidst the gloom, there is a silver lining with Erling Haaland. Despite needing three stitches after a bizarre accident involving the team bus door, the Norwegian superstar netted five goals in a match for his national team.
However, this moment of joy does little to soothe the mounting worries for the Sky Blues.
