Florida was buzzing again this weekend: Inter Miami became MLS champion for the first time in its history, and of course the celebration devolved into a giant conga line during the party.
The players, euphoric, grabbed each other by the shoulders, zigzagging in a conga… and even David Beckham let himself get dragged into the dance. Proof that, 48 Messi trophies later, the former Spice Boy can still let loose.
Messi, though. In the middle of the jubilation, the Argentine seemed a little lost: clearly, no one had sent him the memo saying “we do the conga at the end.” While his teammates wiggled along in single file, he watched the scene like a dad watching his kids dance at a wedding. La Pulga, yes. The conga, no.
On a more serious note—though not too serious—Beckham made a point of saluting Vancouver, “who put us under a lot of pressure and even dominated us after their equalizer.” Then he slipped in a little tribute to Messi—of course: “When you give the ball to Leo, he creates chances. The team has stuck together all year.” Translation: thanks for saving us for the past two years.
“There have been a lot of sleepless nights.”

But the Inter Miami coowner didn’t hide his emotion: “There have been a lot of sleepless nights. I always believed in Miami and in creating a team here. We promised to bring in the best players and win titles. Next year, we start again… but tonight, we party.”
And if someone could just let Messi know that next time there’s a choreography… that would be great.
