On May 31, Paris Saint-Germain crushed Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final, securing their first European crown.
The defeat remains a bitter pill for the Nerazzurri to swallow, especially after having lost a final in 2023 as well. Lautaro Martinez is still grappling with the disappointment.
“We’ve been in two Champions League finals in three years. Each time we had an impressive journey, but we always fell short in the final match. It’s very, very painful”.
“The last one hit me hard; I struggled to accept it since we felt confident and well-prepared. Nothing went as hoped, and the pain was even greater,” the Argentine star revealed to France Football.
Healing the Scars of Defeat
Martinez emphasized the helplessness felt against PSG: “These are scars that need healing over time. After eliminating Barcelona, we achieved our goal of reaching the final. If we had played as we prepared, we had a great chance to win. Unfortunately, we didn’t do that.”
This bitter admission illustrates the ongoing struggle for Inter to break through at the European level, despite two remarkable runs in three seasons.
